BYD's battery arm FinDreams vows to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045

Chinese automaker BYD's battery manufacturing division FinDreams Battery has recently announced its commitment to achieve carbon neutrality in all its operations and supply chains by the year 2045. The company has also revealed a series of measures it intends to take in the coming years to achieve the goal. 

In an official statement, as reported by CnEVPost, the company said, "Recently, FinDreams unveiled its goal of achieving full value chain carbon neutrality by 2045, which is an important step in our environmental and sustainability efforts and a strong belief in the future application of green energy technologies". 

"Realizing carbon neutrality is our common responsibility and mission, and FinDreams will continue to improve the construction of its carbon management system, promote the development of green and low-carbon industries, and actively carry out the research and development of low-carbon products and the promotion of their application", the company has added.

The battery company is to establish a carbon emission management system, supported by an emission control committee and emission reduction department, and come up with an organizational system to government emission management in this regard.

Further, FinDreams has affirmed the use of green electricity and "actively build zero-carbon demonstration parks and factories". It is also reportedly eying to explore and develop carbon sink projects to off-set carbon emissions.

On the supply chain front, the battery company will establish a supply chain carbon management platform, develop low-carbon materials and processes, promote "gradual utilization" of power batteries and the set up an intelligent recycling system for used batteries.

BYD is perhaps the world's second-largest battery maker, as per SNE Research, with a global market share of 15.8 percent share in 2023. A determined commitment to carbon-neutrality from a battery manufacturer of this scale is a major feat towards a sustainable battery industry and manufacturing supply chain.
